Mitch SteinMitchell Stein joined Silver & Freedman in 1978, and  is a Partner in the firm's litigation department.  Over the course of his career, he  has become an accomplished business and commercial litigator and counselor. On behalf of businesses and individuals, he has handled a wide range of matters, ranging from product liability, unfair competition, trade secrets, unlawful detainer,  construction, and mechanic’s lien cases to actions involving environmental damage claims and real estate disputes. He has regularly appeared in law and motion, attachments, claim and delivery proceedings, and in judgment debtor proceedings, both on behalf of creditors and on behalf of debtors.  He has successfully handled the defense of several ADA cases , and has given speeches  from time to time on ADA compliance issues.  In addition to trial and arbitration work,  he has also argued appeals in both state and federal appellate courts.

 

In addition to his prominence as a litigator and counselor, Mitchell is a recognized expert in food safety. He was a lead defense counsel in one of the largest product liability cases in the history of the United States, the infamous 1993 Seattle E. coli litigation, commenced by Foodmaker. He has spoken on food safety at the annual convention of the National Meat Association and before other groups, and has been quoted in published news reports.

 

Completing his undergraduate studies as a California State Scholar, Mitchell received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Irvine in 1974, after completing earlier course work at the University of Southern California from 1970-1972. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School in 1978.

 

Mitchell has served as a Judge Pro Tem of the Los Angeles County Municipal Court, as a Landlord Tenant Mediator for the Unlawful Detainer Trial Courts of the Los Angeles County Municipal Court, and as an arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association Attorney Client Relations Section. He is a Past-President of the Century City Bar Association, serving several years on its Board of Governors and serves as Chairperson of the Tort Litigation section.
