Neil Freedman, one of the Founding Partners of Silver & Freedman, has 40 years of experience representing clients in both trial and appellate litigation before state and federal courts. He has been actively involved in alternative dispute resolution forums, arbitrations and mediations, and has had training as, and served as, both a mediator and arbitrator. Neil has litigated business and commercial disputes among individuals, corporations and partnerships in matters involving contracts, business fraud, embezzlement, sales and acquisitions, guarantee and surety issues, leases, landlord and tenants disputes, fraudulent conveyances and enforcement of judgments. He is the head of Silver & Freedman's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department.

 

Neil also has practiced in the Family Law area since 1971.  His practice includes all phases of Family Law including premarital agreements, domestic partnership agreements, all dissolution of marriage issues, divorce trials and post-judgment matters.  Neil has been a member of the Family Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association for over 35 years.  He has served as a volunteer mediator for the Los Angeles Family Law Department and has been recognized by the Los Angeles Superior Court in that regard.  Neil has also been able to utilize his knowledge and experience in family law and conflict resolution strategies to resolve family law disputes for many of his clients.

 

Neil received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1967. He received his J.D. degree from Loyola Law School in 1970, and he was a member of the Loyola Law Review. In 1975, along with Perry Silver, he founded Silver & Freedman.

 

Neil has served as a Volunteer Small Claims Court Judge. He is also a participant in the Judge Pro Tem program and served as an arbitrator and mediator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association Attorney-Client Relations Office in a variety of matters.  He has also served as a private mediator in various cases.

 

Neil has lectured in the field of business litigation among closely held corporations. He has conducted seminars in avoiding business litigation and business dispute resolution.

 

Neil serves clients ranging from national companies to individual professionals and business persons. He has litigated matters on behalf of clients in retail sales, manufacturing, construction, food, medical service and health care industries as well as the professional service sector.

 

Neil is a member of the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association, the Los Angeles County Bar and Century City Bar Associations, and is a member of the Civil Litigation Section. Mr. Freedman was named "1999 Business Litigator of the Year" by the Century City Bar Association and as a Super Lawyer of the Year by Law and Politics Media, Inc. and featured in Los Angeles Magazine.  He also is a member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.

 

Neil describes himself as a "gym junkie," and can be found lifting weights or running on the treadmill at his favorite gym. When not pumping iron, he takes out his aggressions on a little white golf ball, and claims to maintain a respectable handicap at his Country Club. In addition to his love of traveling, fine food, and fine wine, he has been happily married for almost 40 years and has two wonderful children and a terrific son-in-law, who is also a litigator and partner at a major California law firm.  Two beautiful granddaughters round out Neil's wonderful family.
