Barry Weisz is the Managing Partner of Silver & Freedman. His was the Chair of the Business & Tax Department from 1999-2009 and has handled corporate and real estate matters since 1978. Barry has been the lead attorney in numerous corporate mergers and acquisitions and acts as outside general counsel for a wide range of companies, and has drafted a broad variety of corporate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, LLC operating agreements, bridge loan documents, warrants and stock options, shareholder agreements, license and distribution agreements, employment agreements, and phantom stock plans. His clients include manufacturing, distribution, transportation, service, medical and real estate companies. In addition, Barry has been involved in all aspects of real estate transactions for 30 years, including purchase agreements, leases, financing and construction. Along with his partner Greg Weisman, Barry was one of only eleven lawyers selected by his peers as a Super Lawyer in 2010 with regard to his representation of Closely Held Businesses.
Prior to joining Silver & Freedman, Barry was a Partner in the Corporate Department of Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro LLP. Previously, he was a Founder and Managing Partner of Inman, Weisz & Steinberg in Beverly Hills.
Barry received his Bachelor of Arts degree and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1975 and 1978, respectively. He is admitted to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, all of the United States District Courts in California, and has several published opinions in both state and federal court. For many years Barry sat as a Judge Pro Tem in the Los Angeles Superior Court, the Beverly Hills Municipal Court and the Los Angeles Traffic Court.
Barry taught business law at California State University, Northridge and has taught business law to both college and post graduate students at West Coast University. He served as the moderator for "Exit Strategies for the Closely Held Business" held at the Four Seasons Hotel and also spoke before the Century City Chamber of Commerce. He sits on the Board of Directors of the American Friends of Aish HaTorah, Los Angeles, and has served on committees on numerous other charitable and educational institutions. Barry has been married since 1975 to his wife, Candace. They have two children, Ali, who is a real estate asset manager in San Francisco and Zack, who teaches elementary school english through Teach for America in Miami, Florida.
When not in the office, Barry can be found pushing weights in the gym, skiing in the winter, scuba diving in exotic locales (warm water only!), collecting guitars signed by rock groups, or tending his bonsai trees.
