Jeffrey W. Mayes

Senior Counsel

Jeffrey Mayes, Senior Counsel in the Employment & Labor Law Department, represents and counsels employers in all aspects of employment and labor law, including defending employers in wrongful termination and discrimination claims, wage and hour issues, arbitration proceedings, collective bargaining agreements, Cal/OSHA appeals, employee grievances and independent contractor issues. Jeff also represents clients in administrative proceedings, including responding to charges brought by the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (“DFEH”) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”), as well as defending employers at the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (“DLSE”), Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (“UIAB”), and Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (“WCAB”). Jeff conducts supervisor and employee training to combat harassment and discrimination and has acted as an outside investigator to examine employee privacy issues and sexual harassment complaints.

Jeff received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1999 and enrolled in the University of Southern California Law School the same year. After clerking with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Santa Ana, California, Jeff began working on employer-side labor and employment issues in June 2001 as a Law Clerk with Swerdlow Florence Sanchez Swerdlow & Wimmer (“SFSS&W”). He joined Silver & Freedman in February 2005.

When not working, Jeff attempts to see his cats, his dog, and his wife (not necessarily in that order).  He also enjoys precision driving in autocross and attempting to practice driving faster by slowing down.
