
Lane E. Bender's practice focuses primarily on complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, employment-related counseling and litigation, sports law and trial work. Mr. Bender's commercial and intellectual property practice includes prosecuting and defending claims involving trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition, copyright and trademark infringement, breaches of licensing agreements and the negotiation and litigation of breaches of exclusive sports marketing agreements. Mr. Bender's employment practice includes representing both employees and employers in a broad range of state and federal lawsuits, including breach of contract claims, discrimination claims, wrongful termination and related tort claims and intellectual property related disputes involving the workplace. Mr. Bender's employment practice also includes prosecuting and defending wage and hour class actions, as well as lawsuits involving claims of sexual harassment, gender discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, racial discrimination, physical disability discrimination, religious discrimination and retaliation. Mr. Bender's employment practice also encompasses all regulatory compliance issues faced by employers: wage and hour matters, prevailing wage issues for public works, intellectual property, covenants not to compete, employment taxes, the Americans With Disabilities Act, FMLA, WARN, and similar state and federal laws and regulations. Mr. Bender devotes a significant amount of time counseling clients that vary in size from small family-owned companies to major nationwide companies. Mr. Bender provides services to employers that include sexual harassment prevention training, preparing and implementing employee handbooks, advising on personnel matters, conducting workplace investigations and negotiating employment and severance agreements.
Mr. Bender obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990 and his law degree from Whittier College in 1993. Mr. Bender is admitted to practice law in California and Pennsylvania before the following Courts: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania; U.S. Court of Appeals, 3rd Circuit; U.S. District Court, Central District of California; U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit; U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. Mr. Bender is also a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, Retired.
