Jeff Lewis is a partner at Silver & Freedman and a member of the firm's Business & Tax Department. His areas of expertise include tax and estate planning, probate, trust administration, business and corporate law. He represents privately-held businesses as outside counsel in their day to day legal matters. He advises business owners and other individuals concerned with amassing and preserving their estates. Jeff works closely with accountants, investment consultants, insurance agents and other client advisors to assure each client matter is carefully reviewed.
Jeff is a frequent lecturer on estate planning, charitable giving, and general business law at industry conferences, business and civic organizations. He leads seminars in estate planning for groups such as Paine Webber, Northwestern Mutual Life, Sun Financial Group and Penn Mutual Life. For organizations such as the American Red Cross, City of Hope, Boys and Girls Club, Kiwanis International and Flathead Valley Community College, he speaks on the subjects of estate planning and charitable giving. Jeff also lectures on professional medical services practices to such groups as the American medical Association, Children's Hospital, USC/County General Hospital, Whittier Presbyterian Hospital, Orange County Medical Association, Martin Luther King Hospital, Drew Medical School, USC Dental School, and Physicians Management Group.
In addition to his law practice, Jeff taught Business Law at California State University, Northridge and has served as Judge for client counseling competitions at USC Law School. He serves on the Board of Directors on the West Shore Community Library in Lakeside, Montana and was a Founder of the Flathead Community Foundation and currently serves on its Board of Directors and as Vice President.
Jeff is admitted to practice in both California and Montana as well as before the United States District Court, Central District of California. Jeff is a member of the California and Montana State Bar Associations, the Northwest Montana Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA). Jeff is a former Executive Committee member of LACBA's Trusts and Estates Section. He is currently co-chair of the MAP (Managing an Accounting Practice) Committee of the Los Angeles County Chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Jeff has twice been selected by Los Angeles Magazine to its list of Southern California Super Lawyers, an honor bestowed on only 5% of the lawyers in Southern California.
Jeff received his J.D. in 1974 from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. He received the Order of the Palm (Outstanding Senior) and earned a Certificate in Economics from Cambridge University, England and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Southern California, earning his B.A., magna cum laude, in 1972.
